To get a license to drive, you'll require proof of identity and date of birth. You will also need to pass the Regulations Test. The test covers laws signs, driving regulations and other regulations. You will be issued a learners permit after you pass the test. The permit must be held for a period of six months before you can advance to a full license.

Requirements

Before a driver can be able to obtain an A80 license, they must meet the following requirements. These requirements include: completion of a drivers education course, obtaining a written consent from a parent or legal guardian and passing an eye exam and medical test. Additionally, children could be required to complete a certain amount of time practicing behind the driving.

Based on the law of the state, drivers between the ages of 15 and 16 years old must complete a six-month period of skill development using their learner permits before they can take the driver's test. During this time, the driver must be with an adult licensed to drive. In some states, the adult must be a parent or family member.

Next, the driver must pass a knowledge test about road signs, driving rules and driving practices. The driver must then take an actual test. The test is conducted by an examiner from the DMV.

A limited provisional license permits learners to drive during daylight hours with a supervising driver older than 21. Additionally the driver must wear a seat belt and small children must be in child safety seats that are approved by the department of transportation. The license is valid for four or eight years, depending on the age of the holder or not.

Fees

A charge is imposed for both the original and renewal transactions to cover the costs associated with technology upgrades and maintenance of the driver license and ID card systems. This cost is not included in the above prices. A name or address change is not charged, however modifications to the address require a brand new application. A letter of confirmation on U.S. government stationary from your commanding officer, supervisor or spouse, stating that you or your spouse are a contractor or civilian employee, or active duty military personnel, is required for a non-Virginia addresses exception. There is also a permit fee.
